Where it works
Install The Hooter House high up - ideally 3-4 metres - on a sturdy mature tree or hedgerow in a quiet, rural spot.
Face the opening away from prevailing winds (typically east, northeast or southeast) and avoid placing it above waterlogged ditches or close to roads, for the safety of chicks.
Make sure there’s a clear flight path in and out, and that no branches obstruct the front.
The box should be fixed securely using strong brackets or screws.
Why it matters
Barn owls are under threat from habitat loss, dwindling prey and a lack of safe nesting sites. Providing a secure roosting space like The Hooter House can make a meaningful difference to their survival.
