The Nuthatch | Bird box designed for house sparrows and nuthatches

Compact and easy to place, The Nuthatch is made for birds that nest in quieter corners – including sparrows and nuthatches. With its distinctive design and carefully crafted form, it provides a safe space for birds to settle and build their nests. Due to the minimal need for concealment, it is ideal for open placements on garden walls or rooftops.

Why you’ll love it

  • 32mm circular entrance, just right for house sparrows and nuthatches
  • Hand-painted in a natural red shade that stands out – a quiet show of character, for those who like a splash of bold in their garden
  • Designed by RIBA-accredited architects with nesting habits and nature in mind
  • Handcrafted in the UK from FSC®- certified plywood that’s both tough and kind to the planet
  • Designed to sit flush on walls, tree trunks or mounted posts

Where it works

2-5 meters above the ground, ideally facing north or northeast to shield from direct sunlight and rain.

Ensure the box has a clear flight path, free from obstacles, so birds can safely come and go.

For predator protection, position the box securely on a tree, wall or fence post.

Birds need their own little corner to feel safe when nesting, so keep some distance between The Nuthatch and other bird boxes/feeders to avoid territorial squabbles.

Why it matters

Both house sparrows and nuthatches often struggle to find safe, undisturbed spaces to nest, especially in urban and suburban areas where natural gaps are scarce. The Nuthatch offers a dependable, dry and thoughtfully considered alternative that meets their needs.
