The BrdBx Story: A Birdbox with a Wrestling Twist

When we launched BrdBx earlier this year, we had a clear vision: to create beautifully made, durable birdboxes that not only support wildlife but also bring a touch of design flair to outdoor spaces. What we didn’t expect was that our boxes would soon find their way into the hands of one of the UK’s most exciting young garden designers - Callum Corrie.

Meet Callum Corrie: From Award-Winning Designer to Wrestling Champion

Callum is a garden designer with a naturalistic style and a modern edge, passionate about creating spaces for wildlife. He is also a passionate sportsman and currently on the countdown to the GPW Heavyweight Championship on October 5th. To the nature lover, it is difficult to reconcile the two worlds, but Callum reckons that wrestling is similar to the kind of feedback he gets from appreciative audiences at flower shows—they all ‘ooh’ and ‘aah’—it is just a bit louder in the ring!

How a BrdBx Birdhouse Landed in a LEGO® Garden at BBC Gardeners’ World Live

We first met Callum Corrie, RHS Young Designer of the Year 2024 (Gold Medal Winner), at the Chelsea Flower Show in May. It was our very first outing as a company, and to be approached by such a talent was an early highlight. Callum was preparing his Showcase Garden for BBC Gardeners’ World Live, sponsored by the LEGO® Group, and he was keen to include one of our designs. The result? A BrdBx birdbox painted in iconic LEGO red, taking pride of place within his imaginative garden that blended colourful planting, interactive play, and design innovation. The Showcase Garden, named the LEGO® Gardeners of Tomorrow Project, celebrated creativity and inspired younger generations to get hands-on with gardening—so we were delighted that one of our birdboxes helped tell that story.

The Perfect Collaboration: A Small Part in an Award-Winning Journey

For us, it’s a perfect example of what BrdBx is all about: combining craftsmanship, colour, and character to create products that fit seamlessly into bold new environments, while still offering a safe, functional home for wildlife. We’re excited to see where our journey with designers, gardeners, and nature enthusiasts will take us next. For now, we’re proud that one of our BrdBx birdboxes has played a small but colourful part in Callum’s award-winning design journey.

And of course, we wish him all success for his match on October 5th against Ryan P Davies. The GPW Heavyweight Championship is the top singles title for Grand Pro Wrestling (GPW), a British professional wrestling promotion. If he were to win, it would be an enormous feather in his cap to add this to his gardening accolades—an unusual pairing indeed!
